What is an Amazon listing audit?

An Amazon listing audit is a written review of one product page against its buyers, its competitors and its own sales data. Ours ends with what to change first, what to leave alone and how to measure the result.

Usable with any contractor.

Sometimes the right answer is to change nothing for now. If so, the audit says it.

What’s inside

14 sections and one round of questions. It ends with one next step.

  • The buyer and the market: who buys, why, and the 3+ competitors next to you.
  • The page: main image, main promise, gallery order, title, bullets and A+.
  • Search: the queries that bring you traffic and sales, and what’s missing in the title, bullets and backend keywords.
  • Your numbers: sessions, sales, conversion and ads for the agreed period.
  • The plan: an A/B test in Manage Your Experiments, a roadmap by effect and effort, a designer brief.
  • Wrap-up: one next step, plus one round of questions by email.
All 14 sections

The buyer and the market

  1. 1Summary: the product, the listing and the opportunity.
  2. 2Buyer profile: who buys, at what moment and why.
  3. 3Competitors: 3 or more direct ones, and what a shopper understands in 2 seconds.

The page

  1. 4Main image: what works, what doesn’t and a fix within Amazon’s rules.
  2. 5Your main promise and the 5 places it must appear: main image, title, first slide, first bullet, first A+ module.
  3. 6The gallery as a funnel: the recommended order, with the buyer question each image answers.
  4. 7Title and bullets: what to fix and which way to rewrite them.
  5. 8A+ content.

Search

  1. 9SEO: which queries bring you traffic and sales, and which are missing in the title, bullets and backend keywords. From the Search Query Performance report if you have Brand Registry, plus SmartScout. We don’t promise rankings.

Your numbers

  1. 10Your data: sessions, sales, conversion, advertising and trends over the period we agree on.

The plan

  1. 11An A/B test plan in Manage Your Experiments, with the criteria for a decision.
  2. 12A roadmap ranked by effect and effort, including quick wins that need no new photos.
  3. 13A designer brief: technical requirements for images and A+.

Wrap-up

  1. 14Summary and next step.

One round of questions and answers by email.

Two sections from an example audit

Both sections come from an example audit on the same illustrative bottle as our example review. The labels show what we saw, what we suspect and what we checked.

  • Observation what is on the page now.
  • Hypothesis why it may cost sales; a test decides.
  • Confirmed checked against a source.

Section 5 Your main promise and the 5 places it must appear

Main promise: a toddler can drink at any angle, and the bottle closes tight for the bag.

The second half holds only if the lid locks. We confirm that with you before it goes on the page.

WhereNow What to change
Main imageBottle closed, front viewLid open and straw up, on the same white background
Title“Weighted Straw” comes after the sizeMove it right after “Toddler Straw Sippy Bottle”
First slide (photo 2)Bottle with handlesThe straw in use, with the bottle tipped in a toddler’s hands
First bullet“BPA-free, safe plastic”The promise first, then the plastic named by type
First A+ moduleA brand bannerThe straw at any angle, then the lid closing
  1. Observation What the page shows today.

  2. Hypothesis Saying it in all five places should help more parents see it. A Manage Your Experiments test on the main image decides.

  3. Confirmed Checked on the live page. The title already says “Weighted Straw”, just late.

Section 5 The title, before and after

BeforeVisit the Pimbrook Store

Pimbrook Toddler Straw Sippy Bottle with Handles, 8 oz / 240 ml, Weighted Straw, Flip-Top Lid, Blush Pink

Proofreading marks: “Weighted Straw” is circled, with an arrow to just after “Bottle”. “for Any-Angle Drinking” is written in at the same place. “with” is crossed out.

After

Pimbrook Toddler Straw Sippy Bottle, Weighted Straw for Any-Angle Drinking, Handles, 8 oz / 240 ml, Flip-Top Lid, Blush Pink

  1. “Weighted Straw” moves up. It is the main reason to buy, and it came after the size.

  2. “for Any-Angle Drinking” is added. It says what the straw does for a toddler, not only what it is.

  3. “with” is cut. It adds nothing, and it sat in the part of the title a parent reads first.

Motion is reduced, so the edit is shown as before and after.

The new title is an example we wrote for this illustrative listing. It makes the change from section 5: “Weighted Straw” moves right after “Toddler Straw Sippy Bottle”.

Section 12 Roadmap by effect and effort

  1. Step 1 · This week, no new photos. Rewrite bullet 1 around the promise and name the plastic. Add the age range. Answer the leak question: how the lid locks. Move the weighted straw diagram to photo 2 until the new photo is ready.

  2. Step 2 · One product photo. The main image on white, with the lid open and the straw up.

  3. Step 3 · One in-use photo. A toddler drinking with the bottle tipped. In Baby we use photos of real children; AI-generated children only with your explicit consent.

  4. Step 4 · Test. Main image, closed against open, in Manage Your Experiments. The winner is the version with more orders per visit.

  1. Observation All five current photos are on white.

  2. Hypothesis We expect the in-use photo to matter most. Until the test shows it, it stays a hypothesis.

  3. Confirmed Step 1 uses only images the brand already has. Checked against the current gallery.

An example audit on an illustrative product, in the format your audit arrives in. Section 10 of a real audit analyzes your own Seller Central and advertising reports. The example skips it, because an illustrative product has no reports.

What we need from you

The same checklist arrives by email after you order. Never your password.

  • A link to the product
  • Seller Central exports for the period we agree on: Business Reports › Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item
  • Advertising exports for the same period: the Sponsored Products search term report and advertised product report
  • If you have Brand Registry: the Search Query Performance report from Brand Analytics
  • Your goal for this listing
  • What changed recently, and when: listing, price, ads or stock

How the work goes

Nothing starts until the scope is agreed.

  1. Scope agreed
  2. Invoice, 100% upfront
  3. Your reports
  4. Audit in 3–5 business days
  5. One round of questions
  • Not included: producing images and copy, publishing, running experiments.
  • The audit is non-refundable.
  • The $500 counts toward implementation if you order it within 30 days: from $1,700 more, from $2,200 in total. Later than that, implementation is from $2,000 and we refresh the audit data.
  • One ASIN. We agree on variations and the data period before you pay.

Paid for a redesign and can’t tell if it worked, or want us to make the changes? Start with the audit. Implementation starts from an audit.

Questions about the audit

All questions
Is the audit a way to sell me implementation?

No. The audit is a complete result. Your team or any contractor can work from it. If a change isn’t justified, we say so, even when that means no new design work.

What counts as one ASIN?

One product page. If the product has variations, such as sizes or colors, we agree before you pay which ones the audit covers. Each additional ASIN costs $350.

Why does the audit cost $500?

It is a fixed price for a fixed scope: one ASIN, 14 sections and one round of questions. Together with implementation it starts at $2,200, and the $500 is part of that total. The audit tells you which part of that work is worth doing before you pay for it.

Can I get a refund?

The audit is non-refundable. For implementation, if we haven’t started, we return your 50% in full. After we start, we refund the stages we haven’t done. If you order the audit and implementation together and the audit shows implementation isn’t justified right now, because of price, stock, delivery or the product itself, we refund everything except the $500 for the audit. Ongoing improvement is paid month by month: you can stop before the next month starts, and the month already paid is not refunded.
